Terms of Service
Last updated: 6 June 2026
By accessing policynumbers.com or using the PolicyNumbers API you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service. These terms form a binding agreement between you and PolicyNumbers.
PolicyNumbers provides an insurance policy verification API and a public UK economic data catalog. Verification results are based on publicly available regulatory registers and algorithmic matching. They are provided for informational purposes only and do not constitute legal, financial, or insurance advice. You are responsible for your own decisions based on API results.
- You must provide accurate information when generating an API key.
- You are responsible for keeping your API key secure. Do not share it or commit it to source control.
- You may not use another person's API key without their authorisation.
- We may deactivate keys that are unused, generated with false information, or used in violation of these terms.
- Free-plan keys inactive for 7 days with no usage may be deactivated automatically.
You must not:
- Use the API to facilitate fraud, money laundering, or any unlawful activity.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the underlying datasets at scale.
- Resell or redistribute API access without a written agreement with PolicyNumbers.
- Submit automated requests that exceed your plan's rate limits or intentionally circumvent them.
- Use the API to build a competing verification registry without our consent.
- Verification credits are consumed when the
/api/v1/verifyendpoint returns a result. Credits are not consumed for errors or sandbox requests. - Credits reset on the first day of each calendar month (UTC midnight). Unused credits do not roll over.
- Paid plans are billed monthly via Stripe. All fees are non-refundable except where required by law.
- Overage usage on paid plans is billed automatically via Stripe usage-based billing at the rate shown on the pricing page.
- We may change pricing with 30 days' notice. Continued use after the notice period constitutes acceptance.
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Verification results depend on third-party registers (FCA, BaFin, ACPR) and may not reflect real-time changes. PolicyNumbers is not liable for decisions made on the basis of API results. Public dataset data is sourced from official bodies and updated on a best-effort basis.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PolicyNumbers is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the fees you paid to us in the 3 months preceding the claim.
All software, trademarks, and content on policynumbers.com are owned by or licensed to PolicyNumbers. Public dataset content is sourced from open government data under the Open Government Licence v3.0. You may not reproduce or redistribute PolicyNumbers software or branding without written permission.
We may suspend or terminate your API access at any time for breach of these terms, non-payment, or abuse of the service. You may stop using the service at any time. Sections on limitation of liability and intellectual property survive termination.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance.
